Product Story
Did
you know that the first traffic lights for pedestrians were installed in the 1950s and different designs are used in most countries? At that time, the same traffic lights were used for cars, bicycles and pedestrians.
The East Berlin Ampelmännchen was introduced in 1961 by traffic psychologist Karl Peglau as part of a proposal for new traffic lights. This genius man criticized the fact that the standard colors used in the current traffic lights did not make sense for the color blind, and that the lights were too small and weak. He proposed using different shapes for all three colors while maintaining the existing colors of the lights. In the design, the little man's arms stretched sideways like a barricade, emphasizing the "stop" sign, while the side view of the walking man and his moving legs showed that they could be made diagonally. Danke Karl!
